I recently sat down with the Salinas superstar, eight-year-old Clark Apuada. Within the first few minutes of chatting with this fella, I very quickly learned he is wise far beyond his years and truly one of the funniest, most animated kids I've met; his energy is contagious! And I haven't even gotten started on his athletic side...! Just yesterday, we witnessed Clark make finals at the Far Westerns! We can't wait to see what this amazing kid continues to accomplish.

Why is swimming your favorite sport?

I get to try my very hardest and I like that. I also have lots of friends on other teams and it is really fun to see them at the meets.

What is the best advice you've received from a coach?

"Try your hardest and don't forget to have fun".

What is your dream within swimming?

My goal is to make it to the Olympics!

What is your favorite subject in school?

My favorite subject is math because it is challenging and interesting. When I am not swimming or at school, I like to write down math problems on a sheet of paper and solve them. I also really like science. My favorite teacher is my science teacher; she teaches us really cool things.

Best talent?

My best talent is swimming fast! I'm best at freestyle and butterfly.

If I could grant you three wishes right now, what would they be?

1. To magically make it to the olympics

2. To be the fastest 10 and under in the US

3. To get all of the records for an 8 year old

What age are you most excited to be? Why?

I would love to fast forward to 12 years old so that I could have a chance at going to the Olympics (fun fact, you can go to the Olympics for swimming at age 12).

What is your most prized possession?

My most prized possession is my family. My parents and my two brothers, Craig & Curtis mean a lot to me.

What do you want to me when you grow up?

When I grow up, I want to be an Olympian and a chemical engineering scientist (SO cool).

If you could be a superhero, who would you be?

Superman! My name is Clark Kent after all... :)

If you were an animal, what would you be?

I’d be a cheetah! They are super fast runners and swimmers.

Favorite joke?

What number comes after Singapore?.... Singafive!

When have you been most proud of yourself?

I was really proud of myself when I got my first High Point award. High Point awards are given to the swimmer scoring the most points in a given age group at a swim meet.

And lastly, who is your Hero?

My mom and dad are my heroes. They do so much for me and my brothers and love us so much.
