Ava Peyton

#TeamHERO athletes encompass everything it means to be a true HERO: they are athletes on the field, scholars in the classroom, and volunteers in the community.

I met Ms. Ava Peyton at our most recent photoshoot and let me tell you, she is an incredibly inspiring, motivating, and kind girl. Keep on scrolling to learn about Ava. As always, don't forget to give her a shout out on our Facebook page!

Age: 13 years old

Current town: Menlo Park, CA

What is your favorite sport?

Swimming! I wasn't interested in playing a contact sport. I also really like seeing all of my friends and family and swimming is perfect for that.

What is the best advice you've received from a coach?

"Focus on swimming and not everyone else. Just look at the black line ahead of you".

What is your best sports memory and biggest goal?

My favorite sports moment happened not too long ago. I was home alone and waiting on an email stating whether or not I made the All Star team. Hours passed and I hadn't heard anything so I figured I didn't make the team. I was really bummed. The next morning, my mom got a text saying they had the wrong email and I did actually make the team!!!

My biggest sports-related goal is to make Nationals!

Who is your favorite athlete and why?

Missy Franklin is my favorite athlete because she is really tough and very inspiring for girls.

What is your favorite subject in school and who is your favorite teacher?

My previous science teacher, Ms. Marr made science fun for me. I didn't enjoy school very much and was really shy until she showed me how fun experiments and learning can be. I made a lot of friends that year.

What is/are your best talent(s)?

I think my best talent is making friends and not being afraid of being embarrassed. I just like to have fun and be silly.

If I could grant you three wishes right now, what would they be?

1. To make all time standards

2. For all of my friends to go to the same school so I could hang out with them all the time

3. To make summer longer :)

What age are you most excited to be? Why?

I am most excited to be 19 because it will be my golden birthday and my last year as a teenager!

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I want to be a professional swimmer and a really good coach to others. I want to inspire others to be their best.

If you could be one animal, what would you be?

I would be an otter or a seal because they are playful and love to swim.

Favorite quote?

"if you can't believe in yourself, believe in someone younger; they believe in you."

Who is your HERO?

Missy Franklin is my sports hero because she swims backstroke and has gotten really far with it (obviously).

My mom is my personal hero because helps me no matter what, always. She has so much patience and love.

When have you been most proud of yourself?

When I was 11, I swam in the Clovis Swim Meet. It was my birthday and I swam really well. I won and they had a podium so I got to stand up there for the first time.

And lastly, what do you think it means to be a good person?

Being a good person means treating everyone equally, trying your best to not make judgments, and being patient and understanding.

Give Ava a shout out on the HERO Facebook page!
