How To Make a New Year's Resolution

With 2014 coming to a close, these next two weeks are a great time to reflect on the good, the bad, and the downright hilarious things that have happened. Before you hang up your 2015 calendar, take the opportunity to sit down and make a resolution for the new year. Reinforcing your aspirations can transform your dreams into a reality. Follow our guide on how to make a solid, achievable goal that you can look back on this time next year and be proud of!


1. Make a list. Start by writing down highlights from this past year. Go month by month so it's somewhat chronological - this might help you remember things more easily. The list can include everything: school achievements, wrestling progress, memorable weekend outings or events, etc. Whatever made you happy, get it down.


2. Look closer. Your compiled list of great things might seem random, but try to see if there's a pattern. What kind of things did you write down the most? Did you try anything new? Did you go out of your comfort zone? Highlight or circle your top 5 favorite memories or accomplishments.


3. Reboot. Reflect on those 5 things and think about why they made you so happy. Did they challenge you? Did you work hard to accomplish them? Did they involve your loved ones? Were they spontaneous? Truly take time to think about what makes you feel alive and proud, and channel those feelings into your goal(s) for the upcoming year. Keep them realistic enough that they won't be overwhelming.


4. Put it up! You can't be what you can't see! Plaster your goals wherever you know you will see them every days, like next to your bathroom mirror. Read them over when you brush your teeth and see what you can do every day to get yourself one step closer to those dreams. Remember: dreams aren't meant to stay dreams forever!
